Will bleaching dark hair with black roots light brown ruin my hair?

Hellooo everyone. :]

My current color right now is dyed a dark brown, but the black roots are growing in. I was wondering what my best bet would be to get it a light brown (a caramel sort of color)? I went to a salon last week and they said that in order to get it that color, they would have to bleach it all over, and that the bleaching and immediately dying it brown afterwards would make my hair so dry that it would start to fall out and turn out spotchy, since my hair already has dye over it. They recommended going the highlights route; they wanted me to keep coming back to highlight it until it turns a solid color, but that's not what I want at all, and I'm not made out of money. I was wondering if they were correct in saying this or if I should merely go to another salon?

you are better off taking their advice they know best.
Reply:Unfortunately for you, they are correct. When changing the color of hair from dark to light, the hair will only go 3-4 levels lighter. So if you have really dark hair, it is really hard to get it to light brown unless you bleach it. Another thing to think about is if you do get it to a light brown, than as your hair grows, you will have to repeat that same process again on the new hair so you will be damaging it all over again. My hair is naturally a very dark brown and I use a level 10 color, ultra light blonde, and my hair turns a strawberry blonde color because it won't lift to the bleach blonde color. I do it on purpose because I like the color that it comes out.
Reply:you're beautiful
