Can bleaching permanently damage your actual hair follicles?

I'm wanting to bleach my hair totally white, and I don't really care about damaging the hair that is already grown out, since I can just shave it off and start over. But I have heard old wives' tales that over-bleaching/dyeing can cause your hair to grow back thin or patchy, or grow back damaged forever afterwards. Is there any possible truth to this? I'd assume not, but I don't want to take chances, so thanks in advance for any information or links.

If you follow manufacturer's directions you should be fine. The only problem that I see is if your hair is extremely dark in color.

Once you mix the bleach is only works for about 2 hours then it needs to be rinsed out and you shampoo your hair. If it is not light enough in two hours you would need to repeat the procedure.

Most damage is done to the cuticle, the outside layer of the hair shaft. Enough bleaching and you can dissolve that portion of the hair shaft and then you are left with a *mushy* feeling when the hair is wet.
Reply:Yes you can damage your hair because there is a

possibility of over processing the hair.
