Bleaching your hair blonde at home...?

so you go to the drugstore and buy a bleaching blonde kit, and you follow all the instructions, and you rinse out your hair and now you have bleached hair. so do you leave it the way it is, or do you need to dye it blonde too? like buy a box of blonde dye along with the bleach? i've been trying to get answers but no one tells me on here haha.

also, i have red/auburn hair, does that mean the bleach will turn my hair orange? and how can i prevent this? i'm not going to the hair salon or beauty school so don't mention those please.

thank you!

oh and also, can you list some experiences you've had with at home bleaching? thanks!

Bleaching your hair blonde at home...?
My daughter has dark brown hair and she used Born Blonde twice to get a platinum blonde. It was like 10 bucks a box and it was easy to use.

We just spaced it out a day and used a thick conditioner, left it in overnight in a shower cap. She has really pretty soft hair. Her roots need a touch up, so I'm just going to get a regular blonding color , the roots seem to bleach quicker than the rest.

Do a small strand test to see how long it takes and how light it gets.

I think the one she used was left in for 50 minutes at a time.
Reply:my hair was black and i bleached it 2 x its a strawberry blonde color now If you MUST and cant afford a professional make sure your peroxide level is 40 go to sallys use the manic panic kit it has a lot in it.... GET HOT OIL TREATMENTS

PLEASE check your hair often girl if your hair even starts to remotely break wash that mess out do not let your hair start breaking OK

Manic panic comes with a paint brush paint your hair first let set like 15 minutes than do your roots :)

Go to the dollar store and buy like 3 different good looking conditioners see which your hair likes best Condition condition condition
Reply:no. just buy the kit or do it with peroxide and baking soda. unless your hair is black or dark brown, it wont tun orange. but you cant go into the pool for like a week afterwards.

good luck!
Reply:I know you said don't mention a salon, but you really should consider it. Even if you go to a cheaper place like Fantastic Sams or Super Cuts. Doing it at home will mess up your hair. Trust me...I'm a natural blonde, and I used to dye my hair dark. When I tried to bleach and dye it back to blonde, it turned this horrible orange and was really brittle and thin.
Reply:you need to be reading my hair blog I am teaching home hair color 101....http://www.killerstrands.blogspot.com

The proper name of the process is called a BLEACH AND TONE.......

but I have not got to bleaching yet.... i should be there at the end of this week or next...

anyway.......

the one and only way to bleach your hair should be done with an OIL BLEACH....which you can get at any SALLYS BEAUTY SUPPLY.....or local beauty supply...

if you want the best one on the planet, you can get that through me ( redken's levitation)... but its more expensive.... otherwise go to your local beauty supply and buy the box of WELLITE OIL BLEACH and a small bottle of 20 volume developer

and

40 volume developer

there are many things that matter for you to do this safely and correctly....

like :

do you have virgin hair? with nothing on it...

what Level is your hair.....( figure it out on the blog)....

those things plus, your texture, and the health of your hair matters.

you bleach hair that is damaged and you can burn it off your head...

No ****! I have seen it happen with 'other stylists'....who don't ask the proper questions prior to doing it...

(that is why they say having a professional do it is advisable.)

BUT, some people cannot afford it nor want to go that route...which is what my blog is for. . . .

Read over the directions really really well and make up 3 x 5 cards for yourself... so you do every step and do it correctly.....it would be great if you could have a friend or sister or mother help you........... to help with the back of your head......

The box of Wellite has 2 packs of powder bleach and a bottle of oil......the powder and oil are mixed together....then the developer is added....the first batch is mixed with the 20 volume and applied to the ends......and lengths......all over....- section by section.... then once you see that has lightened light enough....

%26gt; you apply to the roots last.....( hair next to the scalp lightens faster because of the heat from the head) ...

its a very messy mess... there is solution dripping all over so put towels down...

combing the stuff through so theres good coverage....

then after it looks to be about a level 9-10 if you tell me the answers to my above questions...i can tell you more exact... ......you rinse...and rinse and rinse............

then you TONE.

The process is called a BLEACH AND TONE. you should never bleach without TONING.

Toning is like putting a nylon on your hair...it is a transparent color.....once its done being bleached it might have a cast of 'yellow' or 'gold' or even 'orange' to it..... then once you see which color the cast is then you tone it accordingly......

The most common toner would be a "lavender one' or one with a blue-violet base....both of those will KILL the yellows and oranges.....

You will want to buy Wella's-Color Charm - 10/01 ASH blond Demi Permanent Color - for your toner.....

Apply as described on box.....

and then DEEP condition condition condition

BTW.......

I am a redhead also..........there are some redheads that should NOT be blonde........ I had to learn the hard way!

when I was in School ( 10,000 years ago) I wouldn't listen and had the class belach my hair. I LOOKED bald.....redheads have weird coloring which i am sure you know.........there is a rule in coloring hair......."never turn redheads bleached blond".....boy did i look like ****...and I can honestly say........it was the worst thing I have ever done to my hair....and my hair has been every color under the sun...........all of them pretty good except this one.

it still pisses me off tho

i still wish for once i could have blond hair like that.

i have figured out ways around it...........like doing a blond VEIL on top of a auburn base..... etc..........but its not the same.......

there are 2 types of redhead coloring..........

1) lindsay lohen redhead and then

2) Nicole kidman redhead.............

which are you?
Reply:Since you are not going to go to a professional, you are not going to have a quality result. Your hair is too long, too red/ violet to be attempting this at home. Timing is a big deal. Proper product choice and shade selection is difficult. Protecting the hair during the process is also needed. You look like you have nice hair. Please save your self the heart ache. Book a consultation with a quality colorist. Talk to them about what you want. They will tell you what to expect, talk about maintenance and cost of course. If that colorist doesn't seem like the one for you, find another. A box of bleach in an inexperienced and hurried hand can cause years of frustration! Best of luck.
