Effects of bleaching & Finding Special Effects dye?

Hey,

Let me start by explaining what I do.

Starting in the summer, I was in Australia. I decided I wanted to dye my hair. I dyed just my bangs because I spike my hair and figured it would look kool. I was going to dye it blond but decided I wanted red. Now I change colors every so often. But when I get back home they said they had to bleach it to get a new color in. When they did it in AU they didn't bleach it...

Does anyone know why they didn't have to bleach it?

Also, a lot of people say it's bad to bleach your hair. I was wondering why.

What is the minimum amount of time you should wait before bleaching your hair again?

If you damage your hair by bleaching it's not forever is it? You can wait for the damaged hair to grow out, right?

Lastly, does anyone know where do get Special Effects dye in Brooklyn?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks so much!

They didn't have to bleach it because they chose to dye it blonde instead. I didn't know the blonde hair dye and bleach were interchangeable, though...

Bleaching your hair means stripping out all the melanin (color). It will also strip your hair of its nutrients and can cause dry hair if you overprocess.

If you bleach the first time around, leave it in for about as long as the instructions tell you to. If the color doesn't come right the first time after the time limit, wait about 3 weeks to re-bleach all the while using conditioner to nurse your hair back to health.

I used Infusium 23 for mine.

If your hair gets damaged, you can either deep condition it or let it grow out. (My hair got its shine and strength back after 2 weeks of using Infusium).

You can get Special Effects at any Hot Topic store.
Reply:I do know one doesnt have to bleach hair to change its color. You can talk to a 3 - 4 hair pros and see what they say. There are temporary hair dyes and rinses that last 3 - 6 months.

And no damaged hair doesnt last 4ver but the extent of damage has alot to do with hair type.

Sorry cant help out with where to get Special Effects Dye in Brookyln

They didn't have to rebleach your hair in austrailia, probably because your bleach was still fresh, or the color you changed your bleached hair to was a darker color, when changing colors often, you will after a whyle have to rebleach your hair, I recommend doing this every month ot so, or anytime you switch to a lighter color, or if your hair is already bleached, and you want to switch to a lighter color, get yourself on over to Sally beauty supply and purchase a packet of UnColor, you can mix with 20 volume developer or water, and it will take your color out leaving your plain bleach there ready for another color. You said you have naturally black hair? I reccommend using born blonde (liquid, you can get this at Sally also, do not use the wallmart pre packaged ****, it isnt as good) and mix that with sopme 30 volume CLEAR developer, the clear is stronger and processes much quicker and generally has better lightening results. now be warned, bleaching is the absolute worst thing anyone can do to their hair ever just short of setting it on fire! so I recommend, bleaching as few times as possible, definatly do not bleach more than once a month, or just bleach your roots or new growth, always use a very good deep conditioner after you bleach (but not before you put on color, the conditioner would block your color from soaking in as well at it could without conditioner) so condition after you color always! special effects is the best line of not so average hair colors, they have the brightest colors, don't damage your hair and are a demi permanant wich means it is just shy of eing a permanent color, in other words, it lasts a long long time with not a whole lot of fading, in other words, dont waste your money on manic panic if you want lasting results. down here in the south, we generally need to get special effects in hottopic, but being in brooklyn as you say you are, id go to a head shop or any "alternative" store and whala there you go.
